WTF IS IT?
A new Origins range designed to protect against ‘environmental stress’. That’s stress wot the environment puts on ya!
It’s the usual stuff – UV, pollution etc, but this range is also targets infrared rays – that’s a big buzzword in skincare right now, making this a very cool launch indeed. You can be cynical about these things – saying it’s all hogwash to sel people stuff they don’t need, but if you’re a beauty fan, a science geek or just plain want to know more, then this is a very interesting range indeed. I’m 100% the latter.
I’ve got the two core products from the range here to focus on – there’s an eye cream too…..
WHAT DOES IT DO?
Infrared is an invisible electromagnetic light radiation that affects skin a bit like UV does. IR rays make up 50% of all light so they’re bloody everywhere, and they penetrate deeper into the skin causing protein damage and free radical formation leading to accelerated ageing. Yikes. Naughty IR. That’s why the skincare world is going BATSHIT over IR right now.
There’s not huge amounts of studies on infrared and the effects on skin just yet, just a couple of studies, which I imagine will increase in the next few years. There’s two sides to Infrared. It’s used in targeted amounts to treat skin issues and to – put crudely – damage the skin a tad to spur it into forming more collagen to leave you with firmer plumper skin. That’s used in a controlled targeted way though – at the right frequency and dose. Then it’s also present all around us, so is potentially just constantly damaging our skin like an invisible, mischievous bastard. All the darn time.
The range itself is created around these three ingredients:
Edelweiss extract: which is found in the Swiss alps so is a mega plant because it can withstand and thrive in very extreme temperatures. It is also has twice the antioxidant activity twice as vitamin C.
White Birch – This is the extract from the white birch tree, and is known for its healing and astringent (oil absorbing) properties. It’s used to combat elastase, an enzyme that can damage the skin’s support network causing premature ageing. It’s used medicinally for LOADS of tings too.
White tea – mega antioxidant that helps to fight free radical damage. It also helps inhibit the activity of the matrix metalloproteinases enzyme that we all have in our skin, that destroys collagen and elastin as we age. This range contains the specific Silver Tip White Tea which is known as the Elixir Of Immortality (sounds like a Game Of Thrones drink) by Chinese Emporers because of the antioxidant content. White tea is picked much earlier than green tea so it’s fresher and more potent etc.
WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE THEN?
Right, onto the stuff!
The A Perfect World SPF 40 Age-Defense Moisuriser is nice, and blends well into the skin. It’s not too greasy or thick and would suit most skin types.
The A Perfect World Antioxidant moisturiser tea is more of a gel-like consistency so better for oilier skins or in the summer.
Both have notes of spearmint, lemon, orange and bergamot so smell like joy. They’re both really refreshing and lovely. Both absorbed well – I have combination skin and they worked for me.
HOW THE EFF DO I USE IT?
These are day skincare products for when the infrared is most potent. You don’t need an SPF at night! So just apply once a dya and use your regular night cream/serum etc.
WHY SHOULD I BUY IT?
These are lovely target-all moisturisers for the day that tick many boxes. They’re an awesome buy if you’re not focussing in on one particular thing (like, say JUST pigmentation or fine lines.) And the infrared stuff is obviously very interesting too. So buy if you’re a geek or just very protective of your skin (like I am.)
They’re also super well priced – another reason to buy:
A Perfect World SPF 40 Age-Defense Moisuriser, £34
A Perfect World Antioxidant Moisturiser, £34
YOU ARE FORCED TO PICK BETWEEN A KISS FROM KEANU (STILL WOULD) AND HAVING A LIFETIME SUPPLY OF THIS STUFF. WHATCHA GONNA PICK?
A kiss lasts for a moment – good skin lasts foreveeerrrrrrrr.
HOW BIG IS YOUR BEAUTY BONER?
